How it works

From gate to grade to gone, one unbroken record

Material is weighed in, processed into the grades you sell, stocked by grade, loaded out and reported to the regulator, and every step points back to the ticket it started on.

STEP 1

Receive & weigh

Gross, tare and net per load, photos per material line, EWC code and carrier details captured at the gate. Metal, mixed waste, skips and WEEE on the same ticket.

STEP 2

Process & grade

Run a processing job against a breakdown: the object or material goes in, weighed outputs come out, each booked to its recycled grade with the residue recorded.

STEP 3

Stock by grade

Every recycled grade has its own stock line per site and bay, with tonnage, estimated value from your live price book and the jobs that built it.

STEP 4

Load out & sell

Outwards loads draw down the grade, print the advice and delivery notes, generate the Waste Transfer Note and raise the sales invoice, with the margin against the inwards cost visible.

STEP 5

Report automatically

Movements go to DEFRA's Digital Waste Tracking service as they complete, EA returns are compiled from the same tickets, and carbon and mass balance figures are ready without a spreadsheet.

Features

Metals and waste operations, end to end

One system runs the whole operation, and every module shares the same data, so a ticket, a grade, a job or a load only ever exists once.

Customisable

Your grades, your breakdowns, your emission factors, your ticket templates and per-user sign-off limits. Wilma is shaped to how your site already works, not the other way round.

Inwards & outwards tracking

Prove where every kilo came from and where it went

Regulators, auditors and customers all ask the same question in different words: can you show me? With Wilma, the answer is one click from the ticket.

  • ✓

Weighed in, with evidence: gross, tare and net from the weighbridge, photos per material line from yard or IP cameras, licence-plate lookup and the supplier's ID, carrier licence and permit on file.

  • ✓

Classified at the gate: every product carries its EWC code and hazard status, so the Waste Transfer Note, the DEFRA submission and the permit return are right before anyone has touched the material.

  • ✓

Followed through processing: the inwards ticket is linked to the processing job it fed, and the job to the recycled grades it produced, so an outwards bale can be traced back to the loads it came from.

  • ✓

Weighed out, invoiced on despatch: outwards loads draw down the grade, print the advice and delivery notes, and raise the sales invoice with the margin against inwards cost on screen.

  • ✓

Mass balance that adds up: inwards, processed, stocked, outwards and residue per site and per period, the figure your permit return and your accountant both want.

Processing & grading

Break an object or a material down into the grades you actually sell

An electric motor is not one product, it is copper, steel, aluminium and a little waste. Wilma lets you define that breakdown once, then every processing job turns the input into weighed outputs stocked under their recycled grades.

Illustrative figures. Yields come from your own breakdowns and are corrected by the weighed outputs on each job.

Define the breakdown once

For each input material or object, set what it typically yields and in which recycled grades. Wilma suggests the outputs on every job, you weigh what actually came off, and the expected yields learn from the real figures over time.

Stock moves itself

Completing the job draws the input from unprocessed stock and books each output into its recycled grade, bay and site. Residue is booked to its waste stream with the EWC code, ready for the outbound consignment.

Breakdowns for every stream

  • ✓ Insulated cable → copper granules, PVC, fines
  • ✓ ELV hulk → ferrous shred, zorba, shredder fluff
  • ✓ Mixed WEEE → PCBs, ferrous, aluminium, plastics, batteries
  • ✓ Skip waste → wood, inert, metal, RDF, residual
  • ✓ Catalytic converters → ceramic (PGM), steel shell

Multi-stage processing

An output can be the input to the next job: zorba goes on to the eddy current separator, PCBs to a refiner, fines to a second screen. Every stage keeps its link back to the original tickets.

Stock by recycled grade

Know what is in the yard, by grade, and what it is worth today

Processing builds stock, loads draw it down, and the price book values it. Unprocessed material sits alongside, with the grades it will become, so the picture is complete rather than half a yard.

  • ✓ Tonnage per recycled grade, per site, per bay, bale or container
  • ✓ Estimated value from your live price book, with history
  • ✓ Unprocessed stock shown with its expected yield by grade
  • ✓ Adjustments and stock checks with a named paper trail
  • ✓ Storage tracked against permit limits, with warnings before you breach them

Government waste reporting

UK Digital Waste Tracking and EA returns, done for you on every movement

Digital waste tracking becomes mandatory in October 2026. Wilma is built against DEFRA's Digital Waste Tracking service and submits every completed movement through the Receipt of Waste API automatically, and the same tickets feed your Environment Agency returns, so nothing is compiled by hand.

  • Automatic DEFRA submission: the moment a ticket completes, the waste movement is submitted to the Digital Waste Tracking service. Full submission history, one-click resubmission for anything that fails.

  • Environment Agency permit returns: tonnage received, treated, stored and removed per EWC code and period, compiled from your tickets, jobs and stock so the quarterly return is a review rather than a reconstruction.

  • Duty of care paperwork: Waste Transfer Notes with EWC codes and carrier licence details for every load, hazardous waste consignment notes where the stream requires them, generated alongside the digital submission.

  • Permit conditions on screen: storage limits per waste type and site, container registers, fire-risk flags, 30-day container warnings and inspection evidence, so a breach is flagged before the officer finds it.

  • Scrap Metal Dealers Act records: who you bought from, what was received, weights and photos per line, and who weighed, priced and signed off, the records a licensed dealer must keep under the 2013 Act.

Carbon capture reporting

Turn recovered material into CO₂e figures your customers can use

Every tonne processed into a recycled grade displaces virgin production. Wilma converts the material you actually recovered into estimated CO₂e avoided, per grade, per customer and per period, with the factor and its source recorded against every figure.

Hartley Demolition Ltd · year to date

1,942 t CO₂e

estimated avoided, from 1,206 t recovered

Cast aluminium · 148 t 1,332 t CO₂e
Copper No.2 · 96 t 269 t CO₂e
HMS 1 & 2 · 962 t 341 t CO₂e

Illustrative. Factors are editable per grade and shown with their source on every report.

Built from real jobs, not estimates

The figure comes from the weighed output of your processing jobs by recycled grade, so it stands up to scrutiny in a tender or an audit.

Factors you control

Emission factors per grade are editable, dated and sourced. Update them when the guidance changes and every report recalculates from the same material data.

Per customer, on their portal

Customers see their own CO₂e avoided on the portal dashboard and on a downloadable statement, a number they can put straight into ESG and supply chain reporting.

A reason to choose your site

Win and keep contracts with customers who have to evidence recycling rates and carbon recovery, with figures from the operator that actually processed the material.

Material to demand projections

See the load before it exists, and the shortfall before the buyer does

Wilma joins up what is in stock by grade, what is still unprocessed and what it will yield, your typical inflow, and what buyers want and when. The result is a forward view that tells you what to process next and which contracts are at risk.

  • ✓

Projected stock per grade: today's stock plus the expected yield of unprocessed material plus your average inflow, week by week.

  • ✓

Demand on the same chart: contracted loads, standing orders and buyer enquiries logged against a grade and a date, so supply and demand sit side by side.

  • ✓

Load-ready dates: when each grade reaches a full load at the current rate, and whether that is before or after the buyer wants it.

  • ✓

Processing priorities: which unprocessed stock to run first to close a gap, and which grades are building with no demand behind them.

  • ✓

Buying signals: when projected demand outstrips inflow, see it early enough to adjust what you pay at the gate for the material that yields it.

Recyclers trading platform

Coming soon

Trade the material you produce, with buyers who want it.

A trading platform built into Wilma Recycling that connects you with material buyers and sellers across the UK. List the recycled grades your operation produces straight from your grade ledger, see what buyers are looking for, agree a price and let the paperwork and haulage follow.

  • List from stock. Offer a grade for sale in two clicks from your stock screen: tonnage, location, photos and the assay or spec already attached, so buyers see exactly what the bale or box contains.
  • See demand before you process. Buyers post what they want, in what grade, tonnage and timeframe. Wanted posts feed straight into your material-to-demand projections, so the line runs towards material that is already sold.
  • Buy as well as sell. Source feedstock from other recyclers when your own inflow dips, and sell on grades that sit outside your core outlets instead of letting them build up in the yard.
  • Verified counterparties. Every trader is a permitted site or registered carrier and broker, checked against the public registers, so duty of care is covered before a deal is struck.
  • Paperwork on despatch. An agreed trade becomes an outwards load in Wilma: the Waste Transfer Note, Digital Waste Tracking submission, sales invoice and chain of custody are generated when it leaves the gate.

FAQ

Common questions

What does Wilma Recycling cover?

The whole material journey: weighed inwards tickets, processing of material and objects into recycled grades, grade-level stock per site, outwards loads and sales, UK Digital Waste Tracking and EA returns, carbon capture reporting and projections of stock against buyer demand. One system, one set of data.

How does processing into grades work?

You define a breakdown for each input material or object: what it typically yields, in which recycled grades, with expected percentages. When a processing job runs, the input is drawn from stock, the weighed outputs are booked into their recycled grades, and the mass balance, recovery rate and residue are recorded on the job.

Is Wilma ready for UK Digital Waste Tracking?

Yes. Digital waste tracking becomes mandatory in October 2026, and Wilma submits every completed waste movement to DEFRA's Digital Waste Tracking service automatically through the Receipt of Waste API, with a full submission history and one-click resubmission for anything that fails.

What government waste reporting is built in?

Waste Transfer Notes with EWC codes, hazardous waste consignment notes, DEFRA Digital Waste Tracking submissions, Environment Agency permit returns compiled from your tickets and stock, Scrap Metal Dealers Act records, and storage-limit tracking against your permit conditions.

How is carbon capture calculated?

From the tonnage you actually processed into recycled grades, multiplied by an emission factor per grade for the virgin production it displaces. Factors are editable and the source is recorded, so the CO₂e figure per customer, material and period stands up when a customer puts it in a tender or ESG report.

What are material-to-demand projections?

A forward view that joins up what is in stock by grade, what is still to be processed, what your typical inflow is and what buyers want and when. It tells you which loads will be ready on time, where you will fall short, and what to process first to close the gap.

What is the recyclers trading platform?

A marketplace built into Wilma Recycling, coming soon, that connects recyclers with material buyers and sellers across the UK. You list the recycled grades you produce straight from your stock, see what buyers are looking for, agree a price, and the trade becomes an outwards load with the Waste Transfer Note, Digital Waste Tracking submission and invoice generated on despatch. All traders are verified against the EA permit, carrier and broker registers. Wilma Recycling customers get early access first; register your interest.
